Looking forward to 2014...

I can't believe that there are only a few days left of 2013!  This has been the best year for me and I am certainly looking forward to 2014.  2013 brought some exciting developments and this blog is one of them.  I have enjoyed doing outfit posts and also being able to comment on all the blogs I love to read - you vintage girls are the best!  You have the best style and are a great source of inspiration for me.  I also wanted to take the opportunity in this post to say a big THANK YOU to those of you who read my blog and for your lovely comments - I really appreciate them!

OK, on to my outfit...

I have tried to incorporate more separates into my vintage wardrobe.  Buying vintage skirts in a small size is pretty easy but one thing I have found is that buying vintage tops in a small size is definitely not easy!  Even buying reproduction or vintage inspired tops is really difficult - this is one thing I think that the repro brands out there really need to get on top of - especially when it comes to sweaters!  Does anyone else have this problem?  Do you have any suggestions for where I can get nice vintage or vintage inspired sweaters from (in a small size!)?

This is one of my favourite cardigans and has a rabbit fur collar (I like to call it my 'Thumper Jumper'...)  I bought this on eBay about four years ago and it was the bargain price of £9!  These days, these type of fur collar cardigans seem to be more around the £50 price, so I was quite lucky to buy this one at this price.  I am also wearing the cashmere sweater and ? Bakelite hoop earrings, both purchased from Rhythm Riot this year.  I don't own many Bakelite items so I am not sure (and to be honest, not entirely bothered) if they are indeed genuine Bakelite.  I didn't pay very much for them and I bought them because I just love the colour and style!

Hope y'all have a great New Years!  See you in 2014!

  1. Hmm, I have the same problem (no tops in my size) but from the other end - I'm plus size. I learned to knit so I could make my own - can you find a knitting-mad relative who would make some jumpers for you.

    1. It's so annoying isn't it! I don't know how to knit and I don't think I would be very good at it. My Grandma knows how to knit, might have to convince her to knit me a sweater!

  3. I know there are some sellers on Etsy that knit custom repro sweaters. They tend to seem a bit expensive, but if you consider the hours that go into making them they are quite the bargain. I really do suggest taking up knitting though. It is not as hard as it looks! Once you get the hang of it you can knit while watching tv or a movie. There are tons of free vintage patterns on sites like Ravelry. And the users on Ravelry are more than willing to provide you help if you get stuck.

    PS: Love your bag!

    1. I have seen the ones on Etsy and they are pretty expensive! Not that they are not worth the price but I can't really justify spending £90 on an (amazing) sweater at the moment. You're right though, I might just have to learn how to knit and hopefully surprise myself! Thanks for the tip on the pattern site too :)

  5. Lovely outfit, looks stylish and cosy. Great bag too. I was going to say the same as Mim, knitting is the way forward, especially as many vintage patterns are in one size, often a 32 or 34 inch bust. Just to add to Kate's comment too. I knit from vintage patterns to sell ( on a small scale ) and it is really hard to price garments so that you earn more than 20p an hour ( not an exaggeration) but so that they are still a price people will pay. You can be looking at 30 hours plus of knitting and then there are material costs. As a rough guide you can get pure merino double knit for around £3.50 a 50g ball near me, and the same amount of acrylic or acrylic mix for £1.50-2.00. So when looking at jumpers online see what they are made of too, it might explain the price a bit more. Hope that helps you on your search!

    Happy New Year!

    1. Thanks for your advice - I appreciate that it must be difficult in getting the price right for your knitted items. I might just have to 'suck it up' and learn how to knit in 2014!

  6. I share your enthusiasm to welcome 2014 with open arms to no end! This past year, though it did have it's highlights (thankfully), was a pretty tough one at times with more curveballs than I can even remember, so I'm really eager to welcome to 2014 and the promise of bigger and better things ahead.

Tons of hugs & the very happiest of New Year's wishes, stylish lass!
